Company visit to rolling mill production plant of LAMINOIRS DES LANDES

15 October 2020 – Last week, MULTIPLE visited the rolling mill production plant of LAMINOIRS DES LANDES (LDL) located at the Bayonne harbour (France).

MULTIPLE partners, AIMEN, AIROPTIC and RUSSULA visited the heavy plates rolling mill production plant of LAMINOIRS DES LANDES (LDL) located at the Bayonne harbour (France). They had a close look to LDL furnace and rolling mill in order to select the best location for the installation of MULTIPLE sensors, and they started planning the first integration in the line to be performed at the beginning of 2021. AIROPTIC gas analysers will be installed in several locations in the furnace to measure key process parameters as temperature, CO, O2 and steam. Besides, hyperspectral cameras will be installed in the furnace and in the rolling mill to measure slab temperature and detect composition. 3D cameras will be also used to measure the thickness of the steel slabs to obtain accurate final dimensions and reduce non value-add post-processes and material waste.

During the visit to LDL and with the direct participation of the plant managers, MULTIPLE obtained a clearer vision of how its technologies could be implemented and identified new applications, beyond the scope of the project. The application of the MULTIPLE technologies allows an approach to the concept of total quality. Allowing a traceability that today does not exist in the market in which LDL competes. The technologies provided by MULTIPLE will allow LDL to provide a guarantee of the highest quality, generating added value to the product in a very competitive market. The use of new models of process behaviour based on the data collected by the system will give a new vision to the process. Being able to identify the most relevant variables and the sensitivity of the system to their variations.
